PD Sessions: Finding the opportunities for radical transformation in local public services

UK local government is at a crucial point.

Demand for services continues to rise, as financial challenges intensify. At the same time, local public services are experiencing significant structural change, with local government reform and devolution creating a once-in-a-generation opportunity for transformation.

In the face of growing public distrust of government, the role of place leaders is more important than ever in demonstrating the impact that can be achieved by harnessing the capacity and creativity of partnerships.

Rather than the tried and tested methods of the past, meeting this challenge will require radical change in how local public services are delivered.

This session will bring together leading thinkers and doers from a range of different local government contexts to explore topics that include:

  • What can be learned from different experiences of place-based change and how can leaders use this to shape their ambitions for meeting the societal challenges facing them in the future?

  • How can local public services pivot towards dynamic operating models and use test and learn methods to achieve radical transformation?

  • How can leaders shape new relationships with communities and community-led organisations as part of a wider ecosystem?

The session will be hosted by Rob Miller (Senior Director, Public Digital). We will be joined by a fantastic panel of guest speakers:

About PD Sessions

An integral part of Public Digital’s work is the conversations we have with partners, clients, staff and members of our network about the future of organisations, and the transformation needed to deliver improved outcomes for the people they serve. PD Sessions is a series of events designed to broaden those conversations. We invite friends of PD and guest speakers to share their thoughts on topics that matter, and how we can bring about change together.

Previous PD Sessions have included: the Service Organisation, Driving digital transformation in seven developing economy countries & Digital and Democracy.
